Marking the debut of John Travolta, Welcome Back Kotter stars the stand-up comedian, Gabriel Weston “Gabe” Kaplon, in the leading role of Gabe Kotter. Gabe Kotter returns to his alma mater, Buchnan High, but this time for teaching a group of remedial students who are known as the sweathogs. Being the founder of the sweathogs during his time as a student, Kotter just knows the right tricks to deal with this bunch of unruly students. It is supported by a strong plotline and some interesting characters like the unofficial leader of the group, Vincent “Vinnie” Barbarino, the class clown, Arnold Dingfelder Horshack, a hip black athlete, Freddie Percy “Boom Boom” Washington, and a Puerto Rican Jew, Juan Epstein.
